Message from the President and Corky
Corky and I want to welcome you to Emporia State as the university begins its 150th anniversary celebration. These are momentous times, and you will find yourself caught up in the Emporia State life-changing experience. Emporia State, after all, has been changing lives since 1863.
In addition, Emporia State is becoming known as the innovative university with powerful aspirations. It’s easy to see why. With aspirations to create an Honors College, launch a $5.4 million renovation of two of its residence halls, begin work on Wi-Fi for the entire campus and complete the stunning Memorial Union renovation, Emporia State is a university on the move.
Much of your experience here depends on your level of involvement. You can create an amazing college experience by becoming involved in more than 130 student organizations on campus. If you can’t find a student organization that suits your needs, you can create your own.
These innovations are meant to give you a richer Emporia State student life experience.
You chose our university because of its high quality academic programs. The university’s many accolades include a first-tier regional university designation by U.S. News and World Report, a top-four teacher education program and international accreditation for our School of Business. You have the opportunity to partner with faculty on their research, and these experiences will help you reach your career and education goals. You will have classes with professors who know and care about you. In these and many other ways, Emporia State truly offers you a private college experience at a state university price.
Corky and I wish you the best as you begin your academic year with us.
Michael D. Shonrock, Ph.D President
