Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Program

Dear New Member of the Hornet Family,

Welcome to the ESU Family! I am thrilled to learn that you will be an Emporia State student this coming fall semester. You have already made many important decisions regarding your education. At ESU, you will be making many more. As part of maintaining a safe and healthy community that enhances your ability to learn and make well-informed decisions, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Program (ADAP) requires each first-year freshman to complete AlcoholEdu.

AlcoholEdu is an online, interactive prevention program designed to educate you about alcohol and its effects— both physical and mental. This course creates a learning experience that:

  • Motivates behavior change
  • Resets unrealistic expectations about the effects of alcohol
  • Links choices about drinking to academic and personal success
  • Helps students practice safer decision-making
  • Engages students to create a healthier campus community

To complete AlcoholEdu, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. If access is difficult you may reach Donna Drake at ddrake2@emporia.edu or 620-341-5222

The AlcoholEdu® course has two sections. Both must be completed to fulfill this requirement:

  • Part 1 of the course takes about 2.5 hours to complete. We recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. This section ends with an exam and survey. You must earn a grade of 75% or higher to pass the course. The course will be available starting July 21, 2014. The deadline for finishing this section of the course is August 22, 2014.

  • After you have been on campus for a few weeks, you will receive an email asking you to complete Part 2 of the course. This section will take about 15 minutes. You must complete this section by October 15,14.

All responses are confidential; Emporia State University staff will never see individual students’ answers. You can feel confident that providing truthful answers – no matter what they are – will not put you at risk in any way
