William Allen White Library

University Libraries and Archives, housed in William Allen White Library and Anderson Memorial Library, contain more than 733,000 books, government documents, periodicals, and theses in open stacks. The library also has an extensive collection of microform and other media formats.

                 

The Libraries and Archives tab in Buzz In, ESU’s intranet portal, serves as the gateway to a variety of online resources to serve the information needs of students and faculty both on and off campus. Online catalogs for both the libraries and archives are available here as well as a variety of online databases, reference sources, electronic journals and electronic books.

1.  Information and Instructional Services - Assistance is provided in the use of the library, locating information sources, use of the online catalog, and other electronic resources from a desk located on the 2nd floor.

2.  Library Electronic Classroom (LEC) - The LEC is the focal point for library instruction across the curriculum. Librarians teach information competency skills in an integrated approach, emphasizing retrieval and evaluation in an age of technology. The room serves as an open lab when not being used for instruction.

3.  Periodicals - The library owns a wide range of periodicals, which include popular magazines, scholarly/professional journals, and newspapers. Periodicals are available in several formats - bound, electronic, microform, and paper.  Ask for periodicals assistance at the Reference/Information Desk on the 2nd floor or go to the library’s website at <http://library.emporia.edu> to search for both print and electronic journals.

4.  Government Documents - U.S. and Kansas state publications of all types, including reports, hearings, statistics, and other materials published by the federal and state governments, are available. Assistance in the use of these materials is provided at the Reference/Information Desk on the 2nd floor.

5.  Circulation/Reserve/Interlibrary Loan - Materials may be borrowed from the library by presenting a valid ESU I.D. card. Materials for assigned class reading are placed on reserve.  Materials not owned by ESU are borrowed from other libraries in-state and out-of-state.  These services are provided at the Circulation Desk on the lobby level of the library.

6.  Special Collections - This area includes several collections, including the William Allen White papers, original artwork, and manuscripts of children’s literature, and rare books.

7.  Archives - The historic Anderson Memorial Library, located at 1220 C of E Drive, about one mile west of the main campus, houses documents and artifacts relating to the history of the university. Finding aids are for processed collections are available online from the Archives Catalog at <http://www.emporia.edu/libsv>.

8.  Media Resources Collection - A listening/viewing area is available for use. The collection, available for checkout, includes videos, compact discs, and audio cassettes.

9.  Copy Machines - Copiers and microform reader/printers are available in the library for your convenience. Copies are 10 cents a page and change is available through a change machine in the copy room or at the Circulation Desk.

Regular library hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 11 p.m. University Archives and Special Collections are accessible Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
