-- Alcohol and Drug Use Prevention (formerly the DART Project)

ASG -- Associated Student Government -- Your “official voice” of the student body at Emporia State University whether that voice be to other students, faculty, administrators, or the Kansas Board of Regents

ATM -- Automated Teller Machine

Block Course -- An eight week long course

Corky’s Cab -- Provides a safe ride home for students from local establishments free of charge. The service is available nightly during the fall and spring semesters. (343-8310)

Corky’s Corner -- A recreation area located in the Hornets Nest which offers billiards, video games, chess, and card playing

Hornet Card -- The official university identification card.  Accesses products and services in the library, student health center (declining balance only), bookstore, recreation center, dining areas, vending machines, athletic and cultural events.

Hornets Nest -- Located in the lower level of the Memorial Union, the Hornets Nest is a good place for a break or quick meal

IFC -- Interfraternity Council -- Governing body of campus fraternities

Interim -- Classes offered January 5-9, 2007

Late Night Event -- A study break from finals....food, fun, great prizes

LEAD -- Leadership Education and Development -- LEAD is comprised of a certification program for recognized student organizations leaders and advisors, and a leadership consultation service for students, groups, and advisors

The Nectar -- A convenience store located on the first floor of the Memorial Union, offering a wide variety of beverages, candy, and frozen foods

Non-Activity Week -- The week before finals when no events are scheduled

Non-Trads -- Non-Traditional students are either over age 24, married, a parent, have been out of school for two or more years, in the military or a veteran

MIAA/NCAA -- Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/National Collegiate Athletics Association -- Emporia State is a member of MIAA and also competes in the NCAA Division II

Mid-Terms -- Mid-semester exams that should reflect your level of comprehension to that date

Office Hours -- The days and times that an individual can be found in their office

Panhellenic Association -- Governing body of campus sororities

POWER -- People Organized for Women’s Equal Rights

PRIDE -- People Respecting Individuality & Diversity in Education

RA -- Resident Assistant -- A good person to know if you live in the residence halls

Student Handbook/Academic Planner -- A very helpful resource and a place to record your appointments/assignments/dates

Syllabus -- A document that details an instructor’s expectations from you in the course

UAC -- Union Activities Council -- UAC programs events that center around educational, social, cultural and recreational activities for students, faculty, staff, and the Emporia community

Work Study -- Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information concerning this on-campus work program
