Ecological Philosophy

Despite the “500" number, this course is intended as an introduction to the field of environmental philosophy and is open to all students without prerequisite. The course will introduce students to several classics of American environmentalism and survey the contemporary field of ecological thought. Topics include deep ecology, ecofeminism, the GAIA hypothesis, phenomenology, and the development of an ethical response to our natural environment. We will read the following works:
