Loren Pennington

Emeritus Professor of History

I am Loren Pennington, Roe R. Cross Emeritus Professor of History. I received my B.A. from Western Michigan University in 1947, my M.A. from Brown University in 1956, and my Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1962. Presently, I am Emeritus Professor of History.

My publications include editing The Purchas Handbook: Studies of the Life, Times and Writings of Samuel Purchas, 1577-1626, 2 vols. (London: Cambridge University Press for the Hakluyt Society, 1997). My present research is on the Studebaker Corporation Automotive Operations, 1945-1966.

I have long been involved in the Flint Hills Oral History project, a collaboration with the Lyon County Historical Archives and the ESU Archives, which includes over 200 interviews with Lyon County veterans of Company B in WWII. With historian Chris Lovett, I have for many years organized and sponsored the Veteran's Roundtable each semester. I was site organizer for the 2012 Kansas Dialogue meeting, held in Emporia.

My other interests include performing the role of Governor Alfred M. Landon in the History Alive! program sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council.
