Regional Geography
Geography 101
Professor Ellen Hansen
GE101 MC and GE101 MD
World Regional Geography is
designed to introduce students to the major regions of the world: Anglo-America,
Latin America, Europe, Russia and the former Soviet Republics, Asia, Africa,
and the Pacific World. We do this by exploring geographic approaches to
understanding the world's regions and the connections between them, including
the physical, cultural, political, and economic systems of the diverse
countries that make up the regions. The course focuses on culture and diversity,
on how the physical environment shapes people's lives and is in turn shaped
by human activities.
Goals
for this course: Students will become more aware of the larger world and
gain a greater understanding of events and issues in the news and will
work on finding their place in the world. The course also explores what
it means to be an American in today's world, and the role of every person
as a global citizen.
