The first of Grace and Jacob's sons was a bright boy, but died at the age of twelve. He was playing in a street at the bottom of a hill. A cart full of coal was parked at the top, but it broke loose from the stone that was blocking one of its wheels. The cart rolled down the hill and crushed young Luke.
