Because Luke's mother was a school teacher, a great deal of emphasis was placed on education. In the process of Luke's education, he met and married Kate Toben. Luke excelled at mathematics, and when he finished his schooling, he went to England to find a job to support his wife and children. Once in England he was able to get a job as a clerk in an accounting firm in London. After several months of work he was able to earn enough money to bring his wife to London. In the years that followed, they had two sons, Joshua and Stephen.
