KATHERINE SHEELY O'MALLEY

Ellen's final child, Katherine, followed in her father's footsteps. At the age of 17, Katherine went to England to find work. She ended up working in a textile mill in Manchester. Most of the workers were poor women, like herself, or children. The foremen and managers however were men. The work was extremely dangerous, and more than once Katherine saw one of her fellow workers maimed or killed in the fast spinning machines and power looms. However, after several years of this back breaking labor, Katherine married one of the mill foremen, Terence O'Malley. O'Malley made enough money for Katherine to leave the mill, and Katherine was able to live the rest of her life in relative comfort.
