JOHN MACGILLIGAN

John, as the second son, received no inheritance. As a result he had to make his own way in the world. At the age of 17 he left his father's sheep station and became a traveling laborer. John moved from sheep station to sheep station working as a herder, a shearer, or whatever work was needed.
