EMMON MACGILLIGAN

Emmon, Cornelius MacGilligan's third child, became a wanderer. Very little is known of him. There is no indication that he had a wife or a child. In fact, the only think that is known about him is his final day in Ireland. Emmon ended up in Belfast, an industrial city, and went down to the docks to look for work. While wandering around the docks, a press gang clubbed him over the head and carried him off for service in her majesty's Royal Navy. In the 18th and early 19th centuries captains in the Royal Navy were responsible for getting their own crews for their ships. If they were unable to get enough bodies through enlistment, they sent out a press gang to kidnap "volunteers." Thus was the fate of Emmon MacGilligan, and that was the last anyone heard of him.
