Samuel E. Dicks, Ph.D.Professor of History |
I have been a member of the ESU
faculty since 1965. I am a native of Wellston, Missouri, where I graduated
from high school in 1953. My college career began at Dakota Wesleyan University,
from which I received a BA in history and speech/theatre in 1957. I received
an MA in history from the University of South Dakota in 1958, and a Ph.D.
in history from the University of Oklahoma in 1966. Before coming to Emporia,
I taught high school in Yankton, South Dakota, served in the US Army and
the South Dakota National Guard, and worked in other governmental positions.
From 1965 to the Fall of 2000, I taught
courses in early European and World History, the History of Science, Historiography
and Historical Method, and Introduction to Genealogy. Beginning with the
Fall of 2000, and continuing until the Spring of 2003, I am on phased
(quarter-time) appointment as a Professor of History. Rather than
teaching classes, I have been appointed as University Historian.
In this capacity I am collecting data and doing various projects on the
History of
Emporia State University. See: http://www.emporia.edu/news/old_gold.html
I also continue with my duties
relating to the publication of Teaching
History: A Journal of Methods.
My e-mail address is dickssam@emporia.edu.
