Ron McCoy, Ph.D.Professor of HistoryRoe R. Cross Distinguished Professor |
My most influential formative years were spent in the Hispano-Anglo environment of a southern Arizona border town. Later, I lived on the Navajo and Hopi reservations. Drawing on that background, I try to infuse my classes with a broad, creative, multicultural, interdisciplinary perspective.
During a typical semester, I teach the second part of the US survey ("US History Since 1877") and its Honors Program variant, with additional course offerings focusing on such topics as the American West, Southwest Borderlands, American Indian tribes, the communicative powers of imagery and images' power for influencing historical memory, the interaction of history and myth, and the uses (and abuses) of evidence in the practice of history.
| I enjoy reading, writing, taking long walks, and the
undersea world visited through scuba diving. A listing of
my professional activities can be fouind on my vita by clicking
