Gregory L. Schneider, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of History

Hi! I'm Greg Schneider, an associate professor of history at ESU. I have been at ESU since 1998 and have taught courses in modern American history, the 1960s, diplomatic history, the history of railroads and the history of conservatism. My research interests lie in the history of American conservatism. I have published three books, Cadres for Conservatism: Young Americans for Freedom and the Rise of the Contemporary Right (NYU Press, 1999), Conservatism in America since 1930: A Reader (NYU Press, 2003), and Equality, Decadence and Modernity: The Collected Essays of Stephen J. Tonsor (ISI Books, 2005). I am currently at work on a history of conservatism in the 20th century tentatively entitled "The Conservative Century: From Reaction to Revolution" under contract with Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.

I recently concluded a stint as a weekly newspaper columnist for The Topeka Capital-Journal and in my spare time, consult as a senior fellow with The Flint Hills Center for Public Policy, a Kansas-based think tank advocating reform of health care, taxes and education. Their website is www.flinthills.org.

Most of my time is taken up with my two children, spouse and a 12 year old Australian Kelpie. Hobbies include model railroading, real railroading, the Chicago White Sox (defending World Series Champions!!), and the Chicago Bears.

My phone number is: (620) 341-5565. My e-mail address is: gschneid@emporia.edu.
