Dr. Chris Lovett

Professor of History

Hello, I am Chris Lovett. I received a BA in History from the College of Emporia, an M.A. in History and an MLS in Library Science from Emporia State after returning from Vietnam, and a Ph.D. from Kansas State University. My teaching fields include Russia and the Soviet Union, the Vietnam War, Holocaust, World War I, World War II, Modern Europe, and the Middle East.

Currently, I am teaching World War I, Age of Despotism, Modern Middle East, and Modern World Civilization. During the summer session, I taught the History of Terrorism, which fit nicely with my professional training in National Security Affairs. Last summer I developed a course covering the history of espionage entitled Cloak and Dagger. For a complete list of my current courses see my personal webpage.
In 1984, Texas A&M published my first major study, Soviet Naval Aviation: Continuity and Change. Since then I have worked extensively on American Military, Vietnam, and Soviet Naval affairs. In January 2002, St. Martin's Press published two chapters involving the Russian and Soviet Navy in their two-volume study of Russian Military History. Currently I am working on internal security issues during the McCarthy period.

Despite promising myself that I would never serve in the military again following Vietnam, I am currently a CW3 in the Kansas Army National Guard with twenty-two years of service and attached to the 102nd Military History Detachment at Forbes Field in Topeka.

I have taught at Kansas State University, the University of Iowa, and most recently, Fort Hays State University.

My phone number is (620) 341-5577.

My e-mail adress is clovett@emporia.edu.
