Charles Brown, Ph.D.Professor of Philosophy |
Hello, my name is Charles Brown. I am Professor of Philosophy in the Social Sciences Division at Emporia State University. My teaching duties include regular courses in Ethics, Logic, and the History of Philosophy, as well as Introduction to Philosophy. In recent years I have also taught such courses as "The Philosophy of Psychology" and "Philosophy and Literature."
Representative publications include "Problems with the Fregean Interpretation of Husserl" in Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology; "Husserl, Intentionality, and Cognitive Architecture" in Southwest Philosophical Review; "Scientific Paradigms and Ecological Values" in Midwest Quarterly; "Phenomenology, Universalism, and Dialogue" in Dialogue and Humanism; and "Humanism and the Voice of Nature: Challenges for a Universal Metaphilosophy," in Dialogue and Universalism.
In addition to my teaching duties I also serve as Treasurer of the International Society for Universalism. This society is dedicated to the promotion of dialogue among opposing ideological groups. The ISU was founded in Poland shortly after the fall of the communist government in 1989. The society grew out of the Polish struggle to create and maintain discussion and negotiation between the Communist Pary and the Catholic Church. My work with the International Society for Universalism has led to many opportunities to meet with and work with philosophers from all over the world. Some of my work for the ISU has been translated into Polish.
My phone number is 620-341-5578.
My email address is cbrown@emporia.edu.
