Dr. Nathaniel Eugene Terrell earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (1986) and a Masters of Arts in Management and Administration in Criminal Justice (1988) from the University of Central Oklahoma, and his Doctorate in Sociology (1993) from Iowa State University. He also taught at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) (1992-1994) and Iowa State University (1990-1993), where he earned a Teaching Excellence Award in 1993. Dr. Terrell has also been named Who's Who Among American Teachers in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 (multiple year honoree), 2005, and 2006, and has been selected United Who's Who.

In the past fall, Dr. Terrell taught Introduction to Sociology and Juvenile Delinquency, utilizing power point lectures. He actively served on the Bonner and Bonner Diversity Series Committee, Graduate Council, Ethnic and Gender Studies Program, Division of Color and Crime Membership and Mentor Committee, American Society of Criminology Mentorship Committee, Minority Scholarship Committee, Emporia State Research Studies Journal Advisory Committee, Emporia State Career Fair Committee, and Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society as Advisor. He is the President of the Emporia Rescue Mission and Chairman of the Fifth Judicial District Disproportionate Minority Contact Task Force.

Spring 2009 , besides teaching Social Deviance, Dr. Terrell will teach Theories of Crime and Delinquency for the new Crime and Delinquency Studies program.
