Outstanding Graduating Senior
Ms. Erin Schmidt was named the 2007 Sociology and Anthropology Outstanding Senior. Erin was a double major in Sociology and Theater. She was awarded an individual plaque at the Alpha Kappa Delta Initiation Banquet, April 9, 2007. Her name has also been engraved on a plaque for the Department, which lists former “Outstanding Graduating Senior” recipients. Erin has accumulated an overall grade point average of 3.90 while at the university obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Theater. Some of Erin’s accomplishments include being the ZOIKS!, business manager, and being part of the Educational Theatre Company and the Performing Arts Board. Honors and awards Erin has received include

Erin was also nominated for the Dwight and Ida Curry Newberg Outstanding Senior award.

Alpha Kappa Delta
On April 9, 2007, the initiation ceremony for Alpha Kappa Delta took place in the Kansa Room in the Memorial Union. The Initiation Banquet was held in the evening with 70 people in attendance. This year's keynote speaker was Dr. Vernette Young, Howard University—Washington, D.C., Sociology Professor and author. Mr. Michael Scott Redpath was AKD’s honorary member for his 20 years of service to law enforcement and the Secret Service Agency. He is also a 1986 graduate of Emporia State University.
Twenty-three new members were initiated this year. They include Alexandra Allbaugh, Wichita; Ashley Brannan, Ottawa; Jennifer Cherry, Coffeyville; Sarah Childers, Olathe; Raymona Eppens, Emporia; Buffy Garrick, Ottawa; Adam Green, Emporia; Amanda Hinrichs, Emporia; Lisa Hoover, Olpe; Meagan Irvine, Sioux Falls, SD; Kari Kai Kirton, Tulsa, OK; Shanda Langston, Wichita; Erin Lindsey, Haysville; Chelsea McClernon, Wichita; Rodney Neal, Emporia; Rachel Randa, Arnold; Casey Renner, Cunningham; Dena Russell, Emporia; Allison Samuels, Madison; Patricia Tietjens, Willis; Charles Van Schoelandt, Olathe; Jennifer Vazquez, Emporia ; and Melissa Wiley, Gardner.
The newly elected executive officers for 2007-2008 are President: Sarah Childers, Olathe; Vice-President: Casey Renner, Cunningham; Treasurer: Meagan Irvine, Sioux Falls, SD; Secretary: Melissa Wiley, Gardner; and Historian(s): Kara Kai Kirton, Tulsa, OK; Erin Lindsey, Haysville; Jeff Singer, Lenexa; and Rodney Neal, Emporia.
AKD's activities for the academic year 2006-2007 included members attending the Southwestern Social Sciences Association conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico – which was a 12 hour drive for Dr. TerrellL; career fair; bake sales, ESU basketball concession fundraising, Abundant Harvest, and hosting speaker Jermaine Jamison, founder of The Moral Entrepreneur, LLC.. Lastly, the 2007 Southwestern Social Sciences Association Meeting will be in Las Vegas, Nevada. Yea!

Departmental Softball Game
The annual faculty/staff vs. student softball game was not scheduled. Lucky students! Please remember that the students have not won in six years and counting! Also please remember the last spanking of 15 faculty/staff and 9 students (2005).
