SLIM Memorial Picnic at Pomona Lake
Next year, 2018, will mark the 40th anniversary of the tragic “Whippoorwill Disaster” in which SLIM lost its director, Dr. Sarah Rebecca Reed, assistant professor Dr. Zubaidah Isa and visiting professor emeritus from the University of Wisconsin/Madison Dr. Muriel Fuller on June 17, 1978. If you are not familiar with the accident, here is background information at the Osage County website.
While SLIM is preparing a bigger memorial for the 40th anniversary, SLIM will be having a memorial picnic this year to pay tribute to these three great individuals who lost their lives in this horrific event. The picnic will take place on June 17th from 11:00-2:00 pm at MGMT Shelter in Outlet Park at Pomona Lake.
Please RSVP by June 15th to Emily Sanders-Jones buy using our sign up form. If you cannot use the form, please email email@example.com or call the SLIM office at 620-341-5203, so we can prepare the proper amount of food.
Spotlight on Students
Mohammad Alzahrani is a full-time student here at Emporia State University in the School of Library and Information Management. He obtained his Bachelor’s in Library and Information Science in his home country of Saudi Arabia. Mohammad was chosen to attend ESU to attain his Master’s in Library and Information Science specifically to return to the academic library where he worked previously and begin training other employees. He will be teaching others what he has learned here in the SLIM program. Mohammed says he prefers the weekend classes because he enjoys being ‘face to face’ with the instructor and other students. Mohammed plans to graduate Spring 2018.
