Admission Requirements
Admission to the program is initiated through the School of Graduate Studies and Research, Campus Box 4003, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, 66801, (620) 341-5403 or online at http://www.emporia.edu/grad/admissions/. In addition to meeting the requirements of the Graduate School, the Department of School Leadership and Middle/Secondary Teacher Education requires the following:
I. GPA of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of college course work for those completing a masters degree or 3.0 on the last 30 graduate hours from a previously completed masters program.
II. Copy of a valid teaching certificate in public schools
III. Completion of either the MAT or the GRE [See MAT Dates]
IV. Official transcripts of all college work (for masters degree send to Graduate Office, Non-degree send to division)
V. Evidence of one year accredited experience in a certified position (three years in content area required for certification) verified by the supervising administrator on the Recommendation Form
VI. Two recommendations on approved university forms from supervising administrators(View Form)
VII. Successful completion of the Graded Departmental Application (Download the Educational Administration Application)
VIII. Current resume or vita
IX. Statement of professional goals for school administration
X. Complete the Disposition form, sign and return the last page. (View Form)
XI. ESU faculty approval utilizing the ‘Graduate Admissions Rating Form’

Frequently asked questions:
What is the deadline for the application material? You need to go online and complete the Graduate Office Application and pay the fee. They will then put you in the system and you will be ready to enroll. You have one semester to request and get all transcripts to the Grad. Office. As for the rest of the items listed, you have one semester to complete and submit..
What is the deadline to take the MAT test? You should complete this within a semester as stated above. There is no cut score, simply do your best.
Can I take the MAT test where I live? Yes, call the nearest college and ask for the Test Assessment Center and sign up. When you complete pre-test paperwork, you will be asked to put in a code for colleges you want the scores sent to. You will look up ESU in the appendix provided and enter the code.
When would I need to enroll in classes? As stated above ASAP when enrollment opens. We begin Spring enrollment on Oct. 10th...Summer enrollment is usually the second week of March and fall is the fourth week of March. Again, classes fill within one to three days of enrollment.
I am planning on taking 6 credit hours. Is there a sequence that I must follow regarding the courses?-or-Are some classes pre-req's for another class? (Other than the internship classes.) No Cohorts, no sequence. The practicum is the last year of the program. You can take classes as needed or available.
