Dr. Nancy Albrecht, Associate
Professor and Director of Admissions to Teacher Education,
joined the ESU faculty in 2001. She teaches graduate and
undergraduate classes, is the director of admissions for
secondary teacher education, and supervises student teachers.
Prior to coming to ESU, she was a high school principal
and teacher for a combined total of 17 years in schools
ranging in enrollments of nearly 2,000 to 400 in Kansas,
Wisconsin, and Germany. She was selected the District 1
Principal of the Year by the Kansas Association of Secondary

Dr. Paul D. Bland, Associate
Professor, earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Ft.
Hays State University and was a teacher and coach for eleven
years in Kansas public schools. He earned a PhD in Curriculum
and Instruction from Kansas State University. He served
as coordinator for secondary education at Lindsey Wilsn
College in Columbia, Kentucky and Director of Teacher Education
and Department Chair at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas.
He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, the Kansas
Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, and the American
Legion. |

Dr. Gwen D. Carnes, Assistant Professor, has just recently joined the ESU faculty. She comes from Oklahoma with experience as a middle/high school mathematics teacher and university instructor, as well as having participated as a Master Teacher in Residence in the Oklahoma Teacher Education Collaborative, an NSF grant project. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tulsa University, a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Central Oklahoma, and her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Carnes teaches classes in research, statistics and psychology. Her research interests include issues in mathematics education reform, teacher efficacy, and novice teacher induction programs. Dr. Stuart Ervay, Professor, has been
assistant dean, executive director of the Jones Institute
for Educational Excellence, and director of the Office of
Professional Education Services. He led in the creation
of school improvement model used in over 1000 school districts
around the nation, and has worked with schools, districts,
district consortia, and the National Council for the Accreditation
of Teacher Education, Association of Teacher Educators,
and other organizations or agencies with the mission of
improving teacher education. Dr. Ervay has also written
numerous articles and books on school reform and teacher
education. |
Dr. Steve Neill, Assistant
Professor, is a 2002 addition to the Teachers College faculty.
He is currently teaching courses for aspiring teachers in
Phase I and is the Field Experience Coordinator. He also
teaches a graduate course in educational research and is
the TWS Mentor Coordinator. He received his BSED from Pittsburg
State with a major in History, his MSED in Secondary Education
from Wichita State and his ED.D in Educational Administration
from Wichita State. His previous experience includes nineteen
years as a high school teacher at Hesston, Concordia and
Sumner Academy of Arts and Science and nine years as a building
administrator at Burrton, Tonganoxie and Douglass. In 2001,
Steve was recognized as KASSP District 4 Principal of the
Year and he holds memberships in KASSP, NASSP, and USA |

Dr. Cynthia Anast Seguin, Professor, has taught in elementary, secondary, and community
college classrooms of diverse populations in urban and rural
areas of Alaska, Arizona, and California. Her experience
includes curriculum areas such as language arts, business
education, social studies, and special education. Dr. Seguin
enjoys working with computers, while still keeping a focus
on the human needs of learners. Dr. Seguin earned a BA and
MA in Education from Arizona State University, and an Ed.D.
in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South
Dakota. Dr. Seguin teachers courses in curriculum and instruction
such as brain-based learning, restructuring classrooms with
technology, higher-order thinking skills, multiple intelligences,
and multicultural education. She also serves as the Teachers
College Multicultural Specialist. Dr. Seguin also serves
on the KS Assoc. of Curric. & Development Board. |

Dr. Jerry D. Will is a professor and
chair of School Leadership and Secondary/Middle School Teacher
Education. He joined the faculty in June of 1997, and brings
over 22 years of experience as an administrator and teacher
to the department. Dr. Will served as superintendent of
schools at Burlingame U.S.D. 454 from 1991 to 1997, superintendent
of schools at Centre U.S.D. 397 from 1985 to 1991, and building
principal at Larned U.S.D. 495 from 1979 to 1985. He taught
in a self-contained classroom on the Sioux Indian Reservation
in North Dakota and in an open-classroom in Charles City,
Iowa. Dr. Will received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction
from Kansas State University, a Specialist in Education
Administration from Fort Hays State University, a Masters
of Arts in Building Level Administration from the University
of Northern Iowa, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary
Education from Dickinson State University in North Dakota.
Dr. Will had completed his second year of a four year appointment
to the state-wide Council of Superintendents when he accepted
the position of department chair at Emporia State University.
Dr. Will has served as a guest lecturer and presented several
workshops on effective class discipline and classroom management.
Dr. Will is a member of KASA, USA, AASA, and KACD. |
