MENINGITIS
VACCINATION POLICY Effective
8/1/04 to 7/31/05 Emporia State University
strongly recommends that all students living in group
housing receive the meningitis vaccine. The University
also recommends that all other students become knowledgeable
about the risks of bacterial meningitis and consider vaccination
in order to reduce their personal risk.
All students entering
campus housing must show documentation of having already
had the vaccine, receive the vaccine on move-in day, or
sign a waiver indicating they have received information
about the risks and do not wish to receive the vaccine.
This documentation will be maintained with housing contracts
and in the Student Health Center.

Emporia State University
requires that all students living in campus housing receive
the meningitis vaccine or sign a waiver indicating their
knowledge of the risks of bacterial meningitis and their
refusal to be vaccinated. This requirement
must be met prior to being allowed to move into group
housing. For the student's convenience, a Registered
Nurse will be available on move-in day to administer the vaccine.
Anyone receiving the vaccine prior to move-in day must
provide documentation from the healthcare provider who
administered it. Documentation of vaccination status
will be maintained in Residential Life and the Student
Health Center.
All other students
are encouraged to become knowledgeable about bacterial
meningitis and its symptoms and to consider vaccination
in order to reduce their personal risk.
Effective 7/1/07
The State of Kansas has enacted legislation of the above policy for all Kansas colleges. As it is now law, the meningitis policy will be strictly enforced. Questions can be answered at 620-341-5223.
