Student Personnel Services
(Graduate Degree Program)
Employment Opportunities
Graduates who seek positions in student affairs usually succeed in gaining employment in their area of interest. Graduates successfully obtain employment in all types of post-secondary institutions: universities, private colleges, community colleges, and technical schools. A recent study showed 100% employment for graduates of the last four years.
Accreditation/Certification/Licensure
The Student Personnel Services Program has been developed in compliance with the standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS), and the Commission XII (Professional Preparation) of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). The program is accredited by CACREP for both College Counseling and Professional Practice.
Financial Assistance
A number of graduate assistantships and other forms of financial aid usually are available each year to students majoring in Student Personnel Services. Graduate assistants receive a monthly stipend, and in some cases, a reduction in fees. Students are encouraged to contact the Graduate Office and Office of Financial Aid for additional information.
Professional Organizations
Student membership and participation in professional activities
are strongly encouraged. In particular, membership and involvement
in the Student Personnel Association (SPA) is recommended. This
is a recognized student organization for graduate students who
are majoring in the Student Personnel Services in Higher Education
program. The purpose of the group is to encourage social and professional
interaction among the student personnel majors.
