Ken Weaver, Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean of The
Teachers College, received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of
Education in Secondary Science Education from the University of South Carolina
and a PhD in Educational Psychology from Columbia University. He was a Peace
Corps Volunteer in the Philippines in rural public health education for two
years and taught 7th and 8th grade science for five years before returning to
graduate school. He is currently certified in middle and high school science and
psychology in both Kansas and South Carolina.
Ken joined the Emporia State University faculty in 1986. He directed the Emporia
State Honors Program from 1990 to 1993 and was the director of the 1992 Kansas
Regents Honors Academy. He was the 50th President of the Southwestern
Psychological Association and also served as President of the Council of
Teachers of Undergraduate Psychology. He is a Fellow of the American
Psychological Association and Honorary Life Member of the Great Plains Regional
Honors Council. He founded the Kansas High School Psychology Teachers Workshop,
which will celebrate its 13th workshop in October, 2007.
In 2000, Ken received an American Psychological Association Presidential
Citation for outstanding leadership in support of teaching and learning in
psychology and was the 2001 recipient of the Psi Chi Regional Advisor of the
Year award for the Midwestern United States. In 2002, he received the Robert S.
Daniel Teaching Excellence Award from the Society for the Teaching of Psychology
of the American Psychological Association. He has been named to Who?s Who Among
America?s Teachers in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2005. In 2005,
Emporia State University?s Psi Chi chapter received the Psi Chi Ruth Hubbard
Cousins National Chapter Award, and in 2006, Ken received the Psi Chi Florence
L. Denmark National Advisor Award.
