Rob Catlett joined the ESU faculty in 1976. His undergraduate and graduate
degrees are from the University of Nebraska. He thoroughly enjoys teaching
economics courses on campus for undergraduates and also in the summer
when he teaches economics for teachers along with partners (i.e.,
organizations that include virtually every major employer in Emporia and
Topeka). He is the director of the Center for Economic Education, involved in
Faculty Senate leadership, the General Education Council, and the American
Democracy Project. He has leadership roles in the National Association of
Economic Educators, the Midwest Economic Education Association, and he is
the president of the ESU chapter of the American Association of University
Professors (AAUP). He enjoys making contributions to state, regional, and
national organizations and programs, especially in economics.
Recently, his research has focused on the economics of crime and developing
economic models of crime; however, he has had the findings of his research
published in a variety of areas including economic conditions analysis,
economies of scale and scope in banking, lotteries, and others. He has
received many honors and awards as an educator over his career.
