Search Instructions for SMEC Materials Online

You can search most SMEC materials online throught the ESU William Allen White Library Online Catalog.  Among the resources not searchable online are posters, tranparancy and slide collections, topical notebooks of articles, and periodicals.

The Kellogg catalog page gives several search options. If you know the title or author, then select the title or author option. You can also search using the keyword option. Simply type in the general area wanted, such as "probability" or "mathematics." The broader the topic, the more library items that will be listed. These search techniques will include library holdings as well as Center materials.

To limit a keyword search to just SMEC holdings, select the "advanced search" .  Then at the lower left access the "LOCATION" drop down menu and choose "Science and Math Education Center" (third from the bottom item on the drop down list).  Hits occur only on items where the selected keyword is given in the title or publisher's description or keywords.  Many selections have very short descriptions or keyword lists.  Therefore the resulting list will be the minimum materials among SMEC's holding that relate to the topic searched.

The Center uses a numbering system that consists of 3 letters and a number. The letters are stylized abbreviations of the subject category and the number represents the position of the book in that category. If you wish to browse a given category of our collection, then select the Number Search option.  On the number serach page, select "Other Call Number".  Entering one of the 3 letter codes will generate a list of all Center holding in that category.  Listed below are the codes currently used to categorize Center materials.
