Vendors of ESU memorabilia
would do well to watch for
Jodie Fund (BSB 1975). Ever
since he graduated, Jodie has
been building a collection. See the photo spread on page 8 of the magazine. On
his frequent trips to Emporia
for sports, Homecoming, and
Foundation Board of Trustees
meetings, Jodie peruses the game
vendors, the bookstore and local
businesses for the newest ESU
gear. Both his home and office in
Bartlesville, Okla., are loaded with
black and gold. Some items are for
every-day use, like the glassware
in his kitchen or the three ESU
wristwatches. Other items aren’t
so unique, as he humorously
related. He bought the football rug
(at left) and framed it, thinking it
was one of a kind. Only later did
he see it sold commercially. Rare
or not, Jodie admits, “It’s always a
matter of what someone’s willing
to pay for it.” In his case, the only
limit is space. “Even though I
moved to a bigger place, I have
to be more selective,” he said. “I’m running out of room to put
things!”

The ESU Athletics Museum takes shape

As a legend of ESU athletics, former men’s basketball coach Ron Slaymaker, with all his knowledge, belongs in a museum. Now he’s created one, the ESU Athletics Museum in downtown Emporia, to showcase the rich history of ESU athletics. Enjoy the extra pictures below. Photos by J.R. Garvey. The third-graders at Avondale West Elementary School in Topeka, 2005-06

Terri Hodge's third-grade class in Topeka is blanketed with Corky gear. They buy trinkets with "Corky Money" (above middle) and went berserk when Corky visited.

In her admissions office at ESU, Susan Brinkman (BS 1992, MS 1994, BFA 1997) has a collection of ESU gear, like Brandon Schneider's 100th-victory game ball and a collection of autographed Lady Hornet team posters.

Richard Bennett, an Emporia dentist, collects Lady Hornet jerseys. When he heard Michelle Stueve had given thought to becoming a dentist, Bennett cut out a picture of the standout forward from Olpe and put her face on a promotional brochure about the shortage of dentists in Kansas, and gave it to her.

Paul Kroll (MS 1979, MBA 1983) has Hornet pride in his Minneapolis, Minn. office: diplomas, magazines and more.
