Hornet Heritage families sought for annual award
Is your family a multigenerational bunch of ESU alumni? Send us your family tree as a nomination for the Hornet Heritage award, the annual award recognizing families with black and gold in their bloodlines. The winning family will be honored during Family Day activities on Sept. 6, and announced at halftime of the home football game that day.

Couple utilizes stock gift to create new scholarship
A habit of consistent giving to Emporia State University scholarships had Russ and Myra Jones of Emporia already thinking about their future giving. It was when they met with John Griffin, the estate planner retained by the ESU Foundation to work with the university’s alumni and friends, that they realized they wanted to give now, too. The result is the Russell and Myra Jones Scholarship Fund. Read more
Beau Arndt scholarship created at Emporia State
Beau Arndt, the avid hunter, outdoorsman and Emporia State University freshman who was killed while hunting in December 2007, has been honored with a scholarship at ESU.
The Beau Arndt “Love for the Outdoors” Scholarship Fund was recently established by Hunt for Hunger (H4H), a local organization dedicated to providing food to those in need, and Beau’s parents, Bob and Christine Arndt of Americus. Read more
ESU hosts school librarians at summer institute
School librarians from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and La Paz, Bolivia turned out June 11 - 12 for the annual Kansas Summer Institute for School Librarians held at Emporia State University’s Jones Institute for Educational Excellence, Visser Hall. Read more
ESU encourages career-changers to seek teaching degrees with new program
Has the employment outlook in your present field taken a downturn? Are you in the midst of re-evaluating the kind of work you want to do? A new program being launched by The Teachers College at Emporia State University this summer offers career-change opportunities in the fields of education, school counseling, and library media specialist.
In doing so, the Alternate Route/Restricted License Program will help counteract personnel shortages in Kansas school districts and make the process of earning a secondary education teaching license more accessible to potential graduates. Read more

ESU 11th in final Director’s Cup standings
On the strength of three top 10 finishes, Emporia State University placed 11th in the final 2007-08 U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup standings with 568.50 points. It is the highest finish ever for Emporia State and the fourth straight year ESU has finished in the top 50 nationally out of nearly 300 NCAA Division II schools. The Director's Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletics program, achieving success in many sports, both men’s and women’s. Read more
