Fall roster for Emporia State’s student Ambassadors organization announced

Thirty-two Emporia State University students have been chosen to represent their university in the prestigious Ambassadors organization for the 2008-09 academic year. The award-winning group brings together some of ESU’s most capable student leaders in the cause of serving the university. Read more

Hornet auction raises more than $22,000

The Emporia State athletic department has ended a spectacular year on the courts and in the fields with another successful annual golf tournament and auction. After the first review of the books, over $22,000 was raised from the combined auction on Friday night and the golf action on Saturday. Read more

NTHF inductions set for June 19 – 20

The National Teachers Hall of Fame will induct five new members during the annual ceremony and activities on June 19 and 20. Read more about the inductees and the Hall of Fame, which is housed on ESU’s campus, at http://www.nthf.org/.

Student nurse recognition ceremony includes scholarship awards

Emporia State University’s Newman School of Nursing recognized achievements and awarded scholarships during the school’s annual student nurse recognition ceremony, held May 16 in Albert Taylor Hall on the ESU campus. Heather Wilson received the Cora Miller Award, honoring a graduating student who demonstrates leadership in nursing and academic excellence. Jennifer Frey received the Frances Stout award recognizing excellence in clinical nursing. Read more

Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty earn excellence awards

Three members of Emporia State University’s Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty are being recognized for their contributions to the university. ESU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Awards of Excellence were presented to Dr. Charles Brown, Dr. Marshall Sundberg, and Professor Amy Sage Webb. Read more

Twenty-four Hornets named All-Academic in MIAA

A total of 24 Emporia State student athletes were honored by the conference for their success in the classroom and in the athletic arena. Six men and 18 women were named Academic All-MIAA for carrying a cumulative 3.50 grade-point average in two terms of attendance at the nominating institution, and earning All-MIAA honors in their sport over the past season. Lady Hornet basketball leads league in attendance

Emporia State basketball fans again proved they are some of the best in the country as the Lady Hornet basketball team ranked in the top six nationally in attendance for the 11th straight year. It is the second straight year and fourth time overall ESU has finished second in the nation in average attendance. Read more

ESU's Stueve named top MIAA female athlete

Emporia State Lady Hornet basketball player Michelle Stueve has been named the 2008 Ken B. Jones Award winner as the top female student-athlete in the MIAA. The Olpe, Kan. native was ranked in the top ten nationally in scoring, three-point field goals percentage and made three-pointers. She was a unanimous selection for MVP of the MIAA. Hernandez signs with Detroit Tigers

ESU baseball player Keith Hernandez signed a free agent contract this week with the Detroit Tigers. Hernandez was named the Player of the Year in the NCAA’s Division II this season by both the ABCA and NCBWA.
