Professor's sense of community becomes his legacy
Ron Keith, an associate professor of physics at Emporia State University, cared deeply for the people around him, especially his students. He may have lost his battle with cancer in late 2007, but his caring personality will remain.
Through an estate gift, the professor left behind his legacy through the Ronald Loren Keith Scholarship Fund. The educational opportunity is available for juniors and seniors seeking a bachelor of science degree with a desire to teach physics. Read more by clicking here.

ESU recognizes Schwenn at reception
A full house of John Schwenn’s fans honored the long-time service of the departing
administrator at a reception Monday. Schwenn, vice president for academic affairs at ESU since 1997, will become the president of Dalton State College, Dalton, Ga., on March 1.

Lady Hornets share first place in MIAA
All-American Michelle Stueve scored 27 points with a season-high 16 rebounds as #20 Emporia State defeated Central Missouri 83-65 in White Auditorium on Saturday night.
ESU opened the game with an 11-3 run and never trailed, notching their seventh straight win and snapping a five game winning streak for UCM.
The Lady Hornets, who maintained their share of first place in the MIAA, will embark on a three-game road trip starting at Pittsburg State. Tip-off on Wednesday from Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan. is set for 5:30 p.m.
Stueve now has 2,239 career points and has moved into 22nd in all-time NCAA Division II career scoring.
Rossbach breaks school record
All-American Jonel Rossbach shattered the school record and recorded the fastest D-II time in the nation this year in the 5000m at the ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Friday. Her automatic qualifier was joined by seven provisional qualifiers by ESU at the MSSU Radio Shack Invitational in Joplin, Mo.
Rossbach’s time of 16:51.62 is the top mark in D-II this year by nearly 16 seconds and broke Kadri Kelve’s ESU record of 17:11.80 set in 2003 by over 20 seconds. She finished seventh in the field that was won by Iowa State All-American Lisa Koll. Koll’s time of 15:52.37 is an NCAA Division I automatic qualifier and shattered the meet and facility record by 23 seconds in a race that saw five competitors hit the D-I provisional qualifying mark.
“This may have been the best regular season race Jonel has ever run in,” said ESU head coach Dave Harris. “This was very similar to the national championships in cross country. She ran with the top three for a good portion of the race before Koll just ran away from everyone.” Read more by clicking here.

The men opened the season with two wins at Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 16. The Hornets will next be at home for games with North Dakota and Mary this weekend, Feb. 22-24.

Men’s basketball team drops game to Pitt State
Playing without the MIAA's leader in scoring and assists, DeAndre Townsend, Emporia State fell to Central Missouri 71-52 on Saturday night in White Auditorium. Townsend was out for the night with the flu.
The 52 points were the fewest scored by a David Moe-coached team and the fewest scored by ESU in White Auditorium since a 54-52 loss to Pittsburg State in 2000. Marvin Lee paced the Hornets with 13 points and nine rebounds and was the only Hornet in double figures.
The Hornets begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday at Pittsburg State. Tip-off from Lance Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
