ESU surpasses scholarship campaign goal
Stories |
Emporia State University surpassed the goal of its scholarship campaign, Building Blocks for Success, at the end of the 2007 fiscal year, ESU President Michael Lane announced Tuesday during his address at the fall general assembly.
The tally stood at $15.88 million by June 30, above the $15 million goal set for the campaign. A celebration for donors and university leadership is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 18, during ESU’s Homecoming Week. The media is invited to attend.
“We owe our thanks and gratitude to the donors who made this tremendous achievement possible,” said Judith Heasley, executive director of University Advancement. “This has been an arduous process for donors, volunteers, university leadership and the University Advancement team. Our success is a tribute to everyone involved. Their vision and tireless efforts have brought this campaign to fruition, and their work will touch the lives of students for years to come.”

Civil rights milestone to be celebrated with ESU's Bonner and Bonner lecture
Fifty years ago, Little Rock Central High School was desegregated by a brave group of nine African-American students who became known as the Little Rock Nine. One of those students, Minnijean Brown Trickey, has been a prominent civil rights activist ever since. On Sept. 12, she’ll speak at Emporia State University at this fall’s Bonner and Bonner Diversity Lecture Series.
Her address, “Return to Little Rock,” will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Albert Taylor Hall. Days later on Sept. 25, the nation’s attention will focus on Little Rock to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this turning point in the nation’s struggle for equality. Mark your calendars for this illuminating, educational event, and read more about Minnijean Brown Trickey at http://www.emporia.edu/bonner/.
Students return for fall semester
Campus is abuzz with the return of students for a new school year. The Hornet Helpers Move In day was last Friday, when the campus community opened our arms to incoming students and helped every last one move into the residence halls. After unlocking those dorm-room doors, we’re unlocking minds this week – today is the second day of classes!
