Math and science camp for girls Music department hosts workshops |
Piano performance lab honors former professor
An exclusive group of serious piano students at Emporia State University will soon take their art to the next level in the Paul Moore Piano Performance Lab. The lab is named after Moore, who taught piano at ESU for 40 years before retiring in 2000. The lab will allow students to videotape their lessons and analyze their own techniques, thus maximizing their lessons from Dr. Martín Cuéllar, associate professor of piano at ESU and a renowned performer. Three alumni chapters going underground
Three alumni chapters are joining forces to travel 650 feet underground for a salt museum tour, and then surface for an evening of fun. It all happens on Saturday, July 7 in Hutchinson. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Underground Salt Museum, and the tour is from 3 to 5 p.m. Dinner at the Kansas Cosmosphere, catered by The Anchor Inn, begins at 5 p.m. The event is being organized by three ESU alumni chapters – the South Central, Mid-Kansas and Smoky Valley groups. Summer program encourages girls to choose careers in math and science 
Thirteen seventh- and eighth-grade girls enjoyed a week of test tubes, microscopes and experiments in Emporia State University’s “MASTER IT!” program. In its seventh year at ESU, the camp encourages young women to pursue careers in math and science. Read more
Department of music to host five workshops for music teachers
Five outstanding teacher clinicians from around the United States will lead workshops for music teachers at all levels, the week of June 25 – 29 at Beach Music Hall at ESU. The one- and two-day workshops feature a variety of topics in music teaching, from working with adolescent girls’ voices to team building for performance groups. Host families enjoy spending time with National Teachers Hall of Fame inductees
During the month of June, five of the nation’s top teachers traveled to Emporia to be inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame. The inductees enjoyed three days of fun, fellowship and celebrity treatment, while staying with five volunteer host families. Read more
Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members
Emporia State University’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi welcomed new members at its spring induction ceremony. The national honor society recognizes and encourages superior scholarship in all academic disciplines, among students and faculty. See the list of the new members.
ESU softball's Huddleston featured in national blog
Emporia State softball player April Huddleston has been featured in a story on an NCAA national blog, the “Double-A Zone.” Read more
McBratney signs with Detroit Tigers
Emporia State baseball outfielder Mark McBratney signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers organization on Wednesday afternoon, and reported to the Class A Lakeland (Fla.) Flying Tigers on Sunday. Read more
Four Hornets named MIAA Presidential Scholars
Four ESU student-athletes with perfect cumulative GPAs were named MIAA Presidential Scholars. Men’s tennis players Julian Rios and Kevin Schoon, soccer player Marcie Fundis and track athlete Brandi Lundgren tallied nothing but A’s during their time at Emporia State to earn the honor. Read more
ESU 37th in final Director's Cup standings
On the strength of placing all 10 spring sports teams into NCAA postseason competition, Emporia State University placed 37th in the final 2006-07 U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup standings with 367.75 points. It is the second-highest point total ever for Emporia State and the third straight year ESU has finished in the top 50 nationally out of nearly 300 NCAA D-II schools. Read more
Twenty-two Hornets earn Academic All-MIAA honors
Twenty-two ESU student-athletes excelled enough on the field and in the classroom to earn Academic All-MIAA honors. Four men and 18 women earned the recognition for Emporia State by holding a cumulative 3.50 GPA in two terms of attendance and earning All-MIAA honors in their sport over the past season. Read more
Hornet men's basketball adds four
Emporia State men’s basketball coach David Moe announced recently the addition of four players to the Hornet roster. High school players Matt Boswell and Jordan Stout along with transfers Marvin Lee and Marc Lewis will attend ESU and play for the Hornets. Read more
Vogelsberg named Academic All-District
Emporia State All-American Andy Vogelsberg has been named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District performer by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He is the seventh Hornet to be honored on the Academic All-District level this school year. Read more
ESU track announces signees
ESU track and field and cross country coach David Harris has added eight athletes to his recruiting class, bringing the total to 22 student-athletes planning to attend ESU and compete in track and field for the Hornets. Seventeen of the 22 are from the state of Kansas, including three who won Kansas state championships in May. Read more
