MIAA Tourney Tip-Off Dinner slated for Sunday
March Madness is nearly upon us, and this year’s Hornet basketball teams have the talent to back up our excitement! Join alumni, coaches, fans and friends in Overland Park on Sunday for the MIAA Postseason Basketball Tournament Tip-Off Dinner.

The dinner is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at the ESU Metro Learning Center, 8400 W. 110th St., Overland Park. Coaches David Moe and Brandon Schneider will be on hand to talk about the upcoming tournament. The men will play Thursday evening, March 1, and the women take the floor at Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium on Friday evening, March 2.
The Tip-Off Dinner also features pulled pork, BBQ chicken, green beans and baked beans from the Texas Roadhouse of Olathe, so bring your appetites. The cost is $10 per person. RSVP by 2 p.m. today to Joan, (620) 341-5440 or jlauber@emporia.edu.

Both teams played three games in the last week. On Saturday, both teams edged arch-rival Washburn, with the women beating the then-#3 Ichabods by rallying from a 16-point deficit. In the first nationally televised game in White Auditorium, the third-largest regular season home crowd in Lady Hornet history – 4,642 fans – cheered them on.
On Monday, both teams hosted Central Missouri State. The women topped the century mark in a big win, while the men knocked off the then-#8 team in the country, 78-71. Most recently, the men fell on Wednesday to Truman State while the women won 77-62.

In other news, Emporia State University is taking over the Capitol Building in Topeka on Thursday, March 1, to showcase all the ways ESU impacts the state. We’ll be there all day. If you’re in the area, stop by and see the dozens of displays by student organizations and departments.
