The 2005 Newberg Outstanding Senior
At the time of her award in 2005, the following biography was written about Theresa Holderbach, the 2005 Newberg Outstanding Senior:
Theresa is pursuing her bachelor of science in education in elementary education. She is also completing a minor in Spanish and endorsements in English as a Second Language (ESL) and bilingual-multicultural education. Holderbach is a 2000 graduate of Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh, Kan.
To prepare to teach students from Spanish-speaking cultures, Holderbach has traveled and studied extensively throughout Central and South America. She has visited 19 elementary schools in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Holderbach has also conducted biological and cultural field research in Mexico.
She is actively involved in Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society. She is a former president of ESU’s chapter of Teachers of Tomorrow. In addition, Holderbach has represented The Teachers College as an Associated Student Government senator. She currently serves as vice president of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. She has represented several of these and other organizations at regional and national conferences.
Holderbach has served as a staff writer, columnist and managing editor of the ESU Bulletin, ESU’s student newspaper. She is currently a features writer for the Sunflower, ESU’s yearbook. Holderbach has also performed with the Wind Ensemble as a clarinetist and oboist.
Holderbach has maintained a 3.99 grade point average while pursuing as many as 23 credit hours per semester. Her academic and extra curricular accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. ESU has named her a Shepherd Scholar and an Exemplary Leader. She is a member of the University Honors Program and has been inducted to several honor societies, including the Spanish national honor society, Sigma Delta Pi.
