ESU Ambassadors, A Service Organization

Emporia State Ambassadors is a service organization that promotes the university on campus, in the community, and throughout the nation.  The members of this elite organization generously volunteer their time to enhance the ESU experiene of both potential and current students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the university. 

ESU Ambassadors are some of the finest students on campus and nation-wide.  Their dedication to serving the university as well as their passion for being involved in other organizations lays the foundation for the drive it takes to promote and enhance the University.

Purposes
  • Serve as Emporia State University's official hosts in promoting the University
  • Promote and support the Alumni Association and ESU Foundation
  • Assist in recruiting students by giving campus tours and representing ESU on campus, in the community, and around the state and nation
  • Provide an opportunity to enhance each individual Ambassador's educational experience
  • Serve as the ESU President's official representatives

Criteria for Membership
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Be active in a variety of organizations and activities on and off campus, including high school, community college, and the University (if applicable)
  • Be a full-time student (7 hours - graduate; 12 hours - undergraduate)
  • Have a good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Give three campus tours a month

Membership Selection
  • Student Ambassadors are selected in the spring of each year for a one-year membership
  • Students who have been members in good standing the previous year may reapply for membership the next year
  • New members will be required to submit the following information:
    • Completed Ambassador application form
    • Statememt of 250 words or less on "Why we should choose you to be an ESU Ambassador"
    • Submit a Top 5 List as to w hy you chose ESU
    • Names of two references from faculty, staff, or employer.  One must be from ESU faculty or staff.
  • Ambassadors reapplying for membership must be in good standing with the organization
    • A re-applicant must submit a formal letter stating what they have done for the organization and why they should be readmitted
    • Sign up for an interview

Membership Requirements

Students selected as ESU Ambassadors will be required to participate in a day-long training session at the beginning of the fall semester.  In addition, the group will have weekly meetings in which all members are required to attend.  Ambassadors should expect to spend approximately 3-5 hours per week on group activities (this will vary depending on certain events).  Members will be asked to join committees and participate in project/event planning as well.  Each Ambassador will sighn a membership contract outlining the responsiblities of his/her position.

  • Attend all meetings unless excused by the Ambassador Secretary or one of the advisors
  • Serve on at least on organizational committee
  • Participate in Homecoming and Senior Week activities - these two events are mandatory for all Ambassadors
  • Give three campus tours per month
  • Maintain a 2.75 GPA
  • Pick up trash for Adopt-a-Campus
