Shelly GehrkeShelly Gehrke, PhD

Assistant Vice President for Academic Success

Shelly joined the Advising Center in June 2010 as the Director.  Previously Shelly was the Director of Advising in the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota, and the majority of her other experience was at the University of Texas.  She has published and frequently presented at national conferences, especially on the topic of students on academic probation.  Shelly has a PhD in Higher Education Administration and a MEd in College Student Personnel and Administration from The University of Texas (Austin).  Her BS is from Stephen F. Austin (Nacogdoches, TX) in Environmental Science with a second major in Public Relations.

Stacey BraunKathy Landwehr

Assistant Director

Kathy began working in the Career Services office at ESU in 1996. In 2000, she joined the Advising Center. Her BS is from Fort Hays State University in Integrated Studies. Currently, Kathy advises the Elementary Education, Sociology, Crime and Delinquency majors and the Undecided students. Kathy has presented at multiple National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) conferences.

Suzanne CrawfordSuzanne Crawford

Academic Advisor

Suzanne joined the Advising Center in August 2014.  She has a Master's degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Emporia State University; and a BS in Athletic Training from ESU.  Suzanne advises the students majoring in Biology, Math & Economics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Athletic Training, and Physical Sciences.

Morgan Mathews

Academic Advisor

Morgan joined the Advising Center in May 2014. She has a Master’s degree in College Student Personnel from Arkansas Tech University; and a BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Kansas State University. Morgan advises Business and Pre-Nursing majors.

Catherine BergmanDr. Catherine Bergman

Academic Advisor

Dr. Catherine (Kate) Bergman has been teaching flute at Emporia State University since 2002. She currently directs the ESU Flute Choir, teaches applied flute and music appreciation classes, and serves as a part-time faculty advisor in the Student Advising Center. Dr. Bergman has worked in the SAC office since 2010, and advises music and art majors.

Amy BlackmoreAmy Blackmore

Administrative Assistant

Amy joined the Advising Center in January 2015 and works to create the best possible experience for students coming into the Advising Center and Disability Services. She is an alumni of Emporia State University with a BS in Rehabilitation, and is a third generation Hornet. Amy recently returned from California to be closer to family and brings a wealth of knowledge from her varied background in nonprofit work.
