Shelly GehrkeShelly Gehrke

Shelly joined the Advising Center in June 2010 as the Director.  Previously Shelly was the Director of Advising in the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota, and the majority of her other experience was at the University of Texas.  She has published and frequently presented at national conferences, especially on the topic of students on academic probation.  Shelly has a PhD in Higher Education Administration and a MEd in College Student Personnel and Administration from The University of Texas (Austin).  Her BS is from Stephen F. Austin (Nacogdoches, TX) in Environmental Science with a second major in Public Relations.


Stacey BraunStacey Braun

Formerly an assistant director in the Center for Student Involvement, Stacey has worked at ESU since July of 1999. She has a Master’s degree in Counselor Education with an emphasis in College Student Personnel from ESU; and a BS in Agriculture from Kansas State University. She is currently the academic advisor for Psychology, Rehabilitation Services, Information Resources and Nursing. She has taught first year experience courses as well as academic success/skills classes, and also works with students who are on academic probation.

Megan joined the Advising Center in August 2011. She has a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education from The University of Toledo; and a BBA in Business Administration from Belmont University. She is currently the academic advisor for Business, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics and Nursing.


Kathy OwensKathy Owens

Kathy began working in the Career Services office at ESU in 1996. In 2000, she joined the Advising Center. Her BS is from Fort Hays State University in Integrated Studies. Currently, Kathy advises the Elementary Education majors and the Undecided students. Kathy has presented at multiple National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) conferences.

Davy joined the Advising Center in 2011. She moved to Emporia from the Kansas City area. She is the front line in the Advising Center and will be happy to help you find answers to any questions you may have about our office or campus in general.
