Academic Advising for Emporia State University
Academic advising is an important faculty responsibility at Emporia State University, encompassing much more than helping students choose courses necessary to the completion of degree programs, as important as that is. The Board of Regents in 1999 stated "effective academic advising is central to the educational mission of the Board of Regents" and emphasized the importance of helping students define educational goals, providing accurate information, informing students how to change college and departments, being accessible, and making appropriate referrals to campus resources.
We are proud of ESU’s record in advising. We were the only Regents institution whose student government expressed satisfaction with the advising received. Over the past fifteen years, ESU faculty have received more awards from the National Academic Advising Association than have faculty from any other institution in the nation.
This handbook is designed as a tool for both new and veteran faculty to use to help further improve our advising and to benefit our students and our.
