Hello! If you major in Elementary Education at
Emporia State University, you will probably meet me one
day. I teach language arts courses in the Early
Childhood/Elementary Education Department and advise freshman
elementary education majors in the Student Advising Center.
I started my career as a middle school English teacher
and have been an ESU faculty member since 1987.
My husband Gerrit and I co-author a column about
children's and young adult literature for the Topeka Capital
Journal and enjoy team teaching on campus as well as presenting
workshops for school districts. We
have two terrific kids-one on each coast--and a lovable
lab named Molly. I am active in state and national
advising and English Teacher organizations. In 1997
I received a National Academic Advising Association Outstanding
Advisor Award and in 2000 I was the first Emporia State
University faculty member to receive the Golden Apple
Award. I am especially proud to have been awarded the 2005 Xi Phi Outstanding Faculty member by ESU students. I am happiest when I am helping students.
I look forward to meeting you.
