Advisors in the Student Advising Center are selected from the faculty of the undergraduate divisions. The twenty-one advisors, representing eighteen divisions, handle approximately 1,600 advisees. These faculty advisors are typically reassigned 0.25 of their faculty load time for their advising in the Student Advising Center. Currently fourteen of the twenty-one faculty have 0.25 release time, the two faculty from Biology split the 0.25 release time, and the other five faculty have a reduced load because they represent divisions with fewer majors. Prospective advisors are selected through consultations involving the Director of the Student Advising Center and the Division Chair. The final appointment process ultimately involves the appropriate academic dean and the vice-president for academic affairs. The intent is to have an advisor who has shown both an interest in and success with the advising of students. Each SAC advisor is evaluated early in the spring semester. Deans and division chairs are encouraged to give significant weight to the faculty member's SAC evaluation. School of Library and Information Management
