Freshman Live On Requirement

Emporia State University requires all freshmen to live in residence halls. Exceptions are limited to those students commuting 30 miles or less to the campus while living with a member of their immediate family (father, mother, sister brother, aunt, uncle or grandparents), who are married, or who have graduated from high school at least one year before entering Emporia State University. Any student enrolled for 12 hours or more, filing for a wavier must provide notarized letters of support from a parent and the family member who will house the student. Wavier of Residential Requirement forms are available by writing or calling the Office of Residential Life. Failure to fulfill the university's housing contract or to adhere to the university's housing regulations will result in the student's transcript and /or enrollment being withheld.

The Processing Fee

The Processing Fee ($45.00) and Housing Pre-payment ($100) are administrative charges and are non-refundable. The Housing Payment along with the Processing Fee awards a priority date to a contract and guarantees housing for the academic year. An early priority date increases the opportunity for the students to receive their desired room assignments.

No assignments to a specific room can be made until the processing fee and assignment payment are on file. For roommates to have the best opportunity to room together, assignment payments, processing fees and contracts from all parties should arrive in the sample envelope.

Assignment payments and the processing fees should be mailed directly to:

Office of Residential Life
1200 Commercial St.
Box 4009
Emporia, Ks 66801-5087

All Subsequent payments should be mailed to:

Cashier's Office
1200 Commercial St.
Box 4021
Emporia, Ks 66801-5087

*Please include the student's name and ID number on all checks or correspondence.

Alcohol / Smoke Free

With the exception of designated upperclass floors, alcohol is not allowed in University residence facilities. Only students on designated floors (subject to change due to no alcohol floor assignment demands), who are of legal age of consumption in Kansas, can possess and consume 3.2% cereal malt beverages and only within their rooms. No alcohol is permitted in public areas such as corridors, lounges, stairwells, or the elevators.

Traditional aged first-year students are not assigned to these spaces.

All campus buildings are smoke-free.

Visitation

Visitation is a privilege in the residence hall community. Standard visitation hours are noon to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and noon to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Students are allowed to vote on other options at the beginning of Fall semester.
Residents in the Morse Complex, Singular Hall, Trusler Hall and the South Tower have the option of extending their visitation to 8 a.m.- 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 24-hours on the weekend. For the option to be acted on, 70% of the residents on each floor are required to vote in favor of the extended option.

In the North Tower the visitation privilege may be extended to a maximum of 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This policy is reflective of the students requests. 70% of the floor population is required to vote in favor of either the extended or 24-hour visitation.
