Click here to view a checklist of items to bring with you at move-in. This list covers only the basics and a few optional items. Please also note the items that are not allowed in the residence halls.
Alcohol / Smoke Policy
With the exception of designated upper-class areas, alcohol is not allowed in Emporia State University residential areas. Only students residing in designated areas, who are 21 years of age or older, can possess and consume 3.2% cereal malt beverages and only within their rooms. No alcohol is permitted in public areas such as corridors, lounges, stairwells, or elevators. No alcohol is permitted in Singular, Towers, and Trusler halls. Wine, hard liquor, and other alcoholic beverages are not allowed in any residential area, regardless of age.
All campus buildings are smoke-free, this includes all residential areas
Cable
Each student room in the residence halls has cable access; however it is up to the student to purchase. If you would like to order cable service through the local cable company, you can call Cable One at 620-342-3535.
Freshman Live On Requirement
Emporia State University requires all freshmen to live in residence halls. Exceptions are limited to those students commuting 30 miles or less to the campus while living with a member of their immediate family (father, mother, sister, brother, aunt, uncle or grandparents), who are married, or who have graduated from high school at least one year prior to enrolling at Emporia State University. Any student enrolled for 12 hours or more, filing for a wavier must provide letters of support from a parent/guardian and the family member who will house the student. Wavier of Residential Requirement forms are available by writing or calling the Office of Residential Life. Failure to fulfill the university's housing contract or to adhere to the university's housing regulations may result in the student's transcript and /or enrollment being withheld.
Important Dates
August 11, 2012: Is move in day for residents of Singular and Towers only.
August 12, 2012: Is move in day for residents of Morse Hall only.
December 15, 2012: Is the move-out date for all residents.
January 13, 2013: Is the move-in date for all residents.
Internet
All of Morse, Singular, Towers, and Trusler feature 100% wireless internet (ResNet). ResNet is included in the room fees, there is no extra charge. All rooms also include an ethernet port if you would prefer.
IMPORTANT: Residents are not permitted to set-up wireless routers in residence hall rooms.
Laundry
High-efficiency washers and dryers are located in each housing area for the exclusive use of the residents. The cost for the use of these machines is included in the housing and apartment contracts. The university is not responsible for damage to, or theft of laundry and items left unattended.
Mail Service
Residence Hall mail is delivered to the area Reception Centers daily. Your mailbox has a corresponding number with your room. You should receive the combination to the mailbox when you check in. If you forget it or have trouble opening your mailbox, ask the Reception Center for help. Check your mailbox often for messages. You can also mail letters at the Reception Center.

Meal Plan
Reductions to your meal plan can only be made at very specific times: during enrollment for each semester and at the end of the fall semester. You may increase your meal plan at any time during the semester. Please go to the Memorial Union ID Center to complete the appropriate paperwork.
Reception Centers
For the convenience, assistance, and safety of residents in the halls, each complex has a Reception Center. During posted hours, these centers serve as information and resource hubs for residents and guests. Reception Center Assistants provide assistance with general questions, lockouts, mail services, maintenance requests, and safety/emergency situations.
Telephone Service
Rooms in Singular, Towers, and Trusler have an active telephone connection. If residents bring a telephone with them, they can receive calls and place local calls using this phone line. Long distance calls require a calling card.
The Morse Complex does not offer phone lines in student rooms, but has emergency phones located in public areas.
