Research and Grants Center

Mission Statement

Welcome to the Research and Grants Center web site. The Research and Grants Center (R&G) has the responsibility of facilitating activities of faculty and staff in seeking external support for research and scholarly/creative projects. The staff includes Dr. Robert Grover, Dean of Graduate Studies; Pam Fillmore, Grants Office Manager; one undergraduate student and a graduate research assistant. The Center is located on the third floor of Plumb Hall, room 313F, campus mail box 4003. It functions under the direction of the Graduate Dean and is responsible for 1) coordination of university-wide policies and procedures relevant to externally funded programs, 2) dissemination of funding information and opportunities, 3) assisting faculty and staff with all aspects of proposal submission, 4) the fiscal administration of grants and contracts, and 5) ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations governing externally sponsored programs.

To assist faculty and professional staff in identifying potential funding sources, R&G subscribes to services such as the Grants Resource Center (GRC), and Info Ed's SPIN . The Grants Resource Center serves as a liaison to federal funding agencies, provides monthly electronic announcements of forthcoming deadlines and grant opportunities, and provides personal assistance in identifying funding sources or obtaining information from federal agencies. Faculty and staff have access to GRC's web site, which contains electronic versions of GRC Deadlines and GRC Reports, Federal Register announcements, federal agency and private foundation links, and a searchable grant database. SPIN (Sponsored Programs Information Network) is a searchable grant database containing information on over 10,000 grant programs, as well as a funding opportunity notification service. The R&G staff will assist faculty in the use of these services or will perform funding searches upon request.

The Center also provides several forums for faculty to share their research interests. The Graduate Studies Afternoon Discussion lecture series gives faculty an opportunity to present the results of their research or scholarly/creative projects and are held once each month during the academic year, excluding December and May. The annual Research and Creativity Forum is held every spring and features a poster session for faculty and graduate students to share their research/creative projects. The President's Award for Research and Creativity is also announced at the Forum and the recipient is the keynote speaker. Click on the Announcements page for dates and details about these and other events.

The Faculty Research and Creativity Committee
The Faculty Research and Creativity Committee (FR&CC) consists of 11 faculty members, including the Dean of Graduate Studies, one representative from the School of Library and Information Management, four representatives from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, two from the School of Business, and three from the Teachers College. The Committee works with the Graduate Dean and the Research and Grants Center to administer a grants program to facilitate research and artistic productivity by the faculty. The program is intended to provide seed money for projects that have potential for external funding. The Committee has an annual December deadline (date varies). For additional information, please refer to the annual grants program announcement or contact the Research and Grants Center. Jump to FR&CC Program Announcement.
