NEW SPECIAL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
A "special undergraduate student" is an individual without a bachelor's degree
who plans to take college work that does not automatically count toward a degree
at ESU. (Also, see 3rd paragraph below, items a, b, and c.)
A student under this classification may not enroll in more than ten semester
hours of credit in one semester. Any exception to this policy requires
permission from the Registrar. If desired later, a student who is admitted
to undergraduate study for a degree can petition to have a maximum of 12 semester
hours of credit earned while enrolled as a special undergraduate student made
applicable toward a degree.
Persons most frequently seeking the special student classification include
the following:
- Those wishing to take a few courses for enjoyment or personal improvement.
- Students currently attending another college or university (the parent institution) and wish to earn credit at Emporia State to be counted at the parent institution.
- Persons enrolling in workshops, seminars, summer camps and summer Suzuki institutes (excluding field based courses).
Contact the Admissions Office, 106 Plumb Hall, or write to the 1200 Commercial, Campus Box 4034, Emporia, KS 66801 for more information.
Note: Special students may not receive financial aid.
NEW CONCURRENT UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
High school students who wish to take college courses may enroll in a maximum
of ten credit hours in a semester. Credit earned while enrolled as a
concurrent undergraduate student may be used to fulfill ESU degree requirements
upon successful completion of the high school curriculum, receiving a high
school diploma and completion of the regular application for admission process.
The application of all credit earned while enrolled as a concurrent undergraduate
student toward fulfilling degree requirements will be determined after the
student becomes a candidate for a particular degree.
