Know Your Numbers

Health Services, Financial Aid, and the Student Rec have teamed up to launch Know Your Numbers! This FREE event is designed to help students educate and familiarize themselves with health, wellness, and financial numbers. Tables will offer:

  • Blood Pressure Reading
  • Blood Sugar Reading
  • Information on Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, and Weight Control
  • Student Loan Balance
  • Credit Score

When: Wednesday, August 19

Where: Tables in front of the Health Center during the Huge Activity Fair

Time: 9am-12pm  

Who: Any Emporia State University student can attend for FREE! 

Women & Weights

This FREE workshop is designed specifically for women to help familiarize and build confidence in the weight room in a non-intimidating and fun atmosphere. Women & Weights will be led by of our student female personal trainers and they will help educate you on how to lift weights properly and provide an understanding as to why adding strength training to your exercise routine will benefit you. The purpose of the program is to:

  • To educate about proper exercise form
  • To teach the importance of strength training
  • Help you overcome fears, misconceptions, and myths of the weight room and large group settings
  • To debunk myths about women and resistance training
  • Build confidence
  • Help with designing a weight training program
  • And to help with any other questions you might have about weight training

When: Wednesday, September 16 and Thursday, February 25

Where: ESU Student Recreation Weight Room

Time: 7-8 pm 

Who: Any female Emporia State University student or faculty/staff can attend for FREE! 

**During the workshop the weight room will be closed to the public. It is also recommend that you come in comfortable workout attire and close-toed shoes because the trainers will lead participants through some circuit training. 

Weight Room Circuit

This FREE co-ed workshop is designed to introduce standard and new weight lifting techniques that are fun and functional. Weight Room Circuit will be led by of our student personal trainers and they will help educate you on how to execute movements properly and provide an understanding as to why adding strength training to your exercise routine will benefit you. The purpose of the program is to:

  • To educate about proper exercise form
  • Add new exercise routines
  • Build confidence in the weight room
  • Help with designing a weight training program
  • Answer questions you might have about weight training

When: Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, April 7

Where: ESU Student Recreation Weight Room

Time: 7-8 pm 

Who: Any Emporia State University student or faculty/staff can attend for FREE!

Monthly Challenges

Each month the rec offers a fitness challenge that allows members to challenge themselves and compete against other members. Most challenges will take less than 5 minutes. The top male and female will receive a small prize.
