Healthy Hornet Wellness Fair

This FREE event is designed to help educate and familiarize students with the Student Recreation along with the seven dimensions of wellness. The fair will feature services offered on campus that can help lead you to living a healthy and balanced life.  Tables will offer

  • Free fitness assessments 
  • Registered Dietitian
  • Student Health Services
  • Career Services
  • Financial aid 
  • Prize wheel and much more!

When: Thursday, August 25

Where: Student Recreation Center

Time: 3:30pm-5:00pm  

Who: Any Emporia State University student can attend for FREE! 

Women & Weights

This FREE workshop is designed specifically for women to help familiarize and build confidence in the weight room in a non-intimidating and fun atmosphere. Women & Weights will be led by of our student female personal trainers and they will help educate you on how to lift weights properly and provide an understanding as to why adding strength training to your exercise routine will benefit you. The purpose of the program is to:

  • To educate about proper exercise form
  • To teach the importance of strength training
  • Help you overcome fears, misconceptions, and myths of the weight room and large group settings
  • To debunk myths about women and resistance training
  • Build confidence
  • Help with designing a weight training program
  • And to help with any other questions you might have about weight training

When: October 27

Where: ESU Student Recreation Weight Room

Time: 7-8 pm 

Who: Any female Emporia State University student or faculty/staff can attend for FREE! 

**During the workshop the weight room will be closed to the public. It is also recommend that you come in comfortable workout attire and close-toed shoes because the trainers will lead participants through some circuit training. 

No Equipment Necessary

This FREE workshop/workout is designed with the upcoming holiday break in mind. Can't get to the gym because of poor weather? No problem, this workout that you will learn you can do in the comfort of your own home! Don't have the fancy equipment that you use all the time at the recreation center? No problem, all you will need is a little bit of space and yourself! No equipment needed The purpose of the program is to:

  • Give you a workout that you can do in your own home
  • Give you a workout that you don't need any equipment
  • Keep you in shape over the holiday season
  • Give you something to do while you're bored at home
  • Break up the routine of always running, or using weight equipment

When: November 30th

Fitness 2.0

Ever seen any of the shiny new treadmill equipment that has a computer on it? Do you wish to learn more about those fancy machines? Well now you can! The purpose of the program is to:

  • Show how all the technology based equipment works
  • Develop your own technology profile on the equipment
  • Log your workouts within the system
  • Create playlists that will play through the equipment that are specific to you
  • Be able to watch something on the internet using wifi during your workouts

When: February 8th

Kettle"ballin"

This FREE workshop is designed to give you a workout with the most underused and underrated exercise equipment: the kettlebell. Have a fun group exercise class with many different exercises involving the kettlebell.  The purpose of the program is to:

  • To educate about proper exercise form
  • To teach about the function of the kettlebell
  • Give you a variety of exercises with one type of exercise equipment
  • Build confidence
  • And to help with any other questions you might have about kettlebell training

When: March 1st

Where: ESU Student Recreation Fitness Room

Wellness in the Woods

This FREE group fitness class is going to be Yoga outside. It is back after popular demand from earlier in the fall! Go outside with some friends and get stretched out and feel more flexible! The purpose of the program is to:

  • To teach the importance of proper breathing during exercise
  • Clear your head after a stressful day
  • Build confidence
  • Gain Flexibility

When: April 12th

Where: The wooded area by the ESU rec center

Time: 6-7 pm
