Facility 

Facility Center Assistant

Job Description: The Fitness Center Assistant is responsible for being the front line in customer service at the Emporia State Student Recreation. 

Specific Duties: 

  • Greet patrons entering the facility and offering assistance
  • Maintain positive customer relations.
  • Serve as a resource by providing accurate and current information regarding recreation and university-related programs and facilities. 
  • Communicate and consistently enforce university, departmental, and facility policies and procedures with all users and co-workers. 
  • Serve customers at the counter and on the telephone in a professional and courteous manner. 
  • Assist Facility Supervisor with facility operations that include equipment set up and tear down, laundry, cleaning, evacuation, and hourly usage reports. 
  • Enforcing membership & guest policies and collect fees according to policy
  • Follow established emergency action plans
  • Report all injuries, damage, equipment needs, and user issues to administrative staff through incident and injury reports as necessary
  • Ensure that all towels are washed, dried, and folded for patron use.
  • Assist with facility opening and closing procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned 

Facility Supervisor

Job Description: The Campus Recreation Facility Supervisor carries the most responsibility of all of our hourly employee positions. Supervisors are responsible for opening the facility on time each day, closing each night and ensuring a fun, safe and hazard-free environment for everyone at the facility, patrons and fellow employees, during hours of operation. 

Specific Duties: 

  • Serve as a resource by providing accurate and current information regarding recreation and university-related programs and facilities. 
  • Communicate and consistently enforce university, departmental, and facility policies and procedures with all users and co-workers; employ strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills with customer(s) when policies and/or procedures are violated. 
  • Serve customers at the counter and on the telephone in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain security and safety of facilities, users, and staff through opening/closing procedures and hourly rounds. 
  • Enforce all Campus Recreation and ESU policies and procedures
  • Enforcing membership & guest policies and collect fees according to policy
  • Follow established emergency action plans
  • Report all injuries, damage, equipment needs, and user issues to administrative staff through
  • Directly supervise Building Staff members

Marketing and Promotion Supervisor

Job Description: The marketing and promotion supervisor will develop designs for various posters, fliers, t-shirts, brochures, advertisements, our website, and other promotional materials. 

Specific Duties:

  • Design, coordinate, and produce Campus Recreation print publications, facility signage, and web designs
  • Coordinate the development of design plans and timetables for projects
  • Assist with developing and implementing marketing strategies to promote facilities, programs, services, and special events for the department
  • Assist in keeping production of all printed materials and projects on schedule
  • Assist with website design, development, and maintenance
  • Take program and event photos as needed and assist in the maintenance of Campus Recreation photo library
  • Assist in the development of audio and video productions for Campus Recreation

Equipment Maintenance Manager

Job Description: Equipment Maintenance manager position is responsible for assisting in the overall administration and management of the cardio free weight equipment. 

Specific Duties:

  • Performing general maintenance and repairs, tracking inventory/stock parts, keeping accurate records on maintenance performed, & assessment of equipment condition
  • Must be knowledgeable in the areas of risk management and emergency procedures and able to respond to emergencies within established guidelines
  • Report to the Director of Campus Recreation

Intramurals

Intramural Supervisor

Job Description: The purpose of the supervisor position is to supervise intramural team sports including flag football, volleyball, sand volleyball, basketball, softball, and other activities. Supervisors are also responsible for overseeing and managing a safe and pleasant atmosphere for intramural participants and for assisting the professional staff when needed. Attendance at mandatory supervisors, officials, and captains meetings is also required. Work under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation Programs. 

Specific Duties:

  • Provide pre-game assistance for the set-up of intramural sports
  • Arrive early and set up the facility for the intramural activity
  • Assist in examining facility for safety hazards
  • Assist in signing in intramural teams and in verifying their eligibility
  • Assign the intramural officials to their partners and field/court assignments
  • Act as a resource and service person for participants
  • Complete the required forms
  • Provide quality supervision during contests
  • Oversee the intramural contest and ensure participation takes place in a safe manner
  • Provide training and support to the intramural officials staff
  • Diffuse any potential problems involving spectators or players
  • Maintaining control during games
  • Enforce university policies
  • Assist in post-game duties
  • Follow established emergency action plans

Intramural Sports Official

Job Description: Officiate Intramural Team Sports including Flag Football, Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball. Work under the supervision of the Student Supervisor of Intramural Sports along with the Assistant Director of Recreation Programs. Attendance is required for the mandatory training and evaluation sessions. 

Specific Duties:

  • Provide Pre-game assistance
  • Assist in setting up equipment for the evening and/or weekend activities
  • Sign-in and collect student ID's of Intramural Teams.
  • Assist in examining facility for safety hazards.
  • Provide quality officiating during contests
  • Follow the Intramural Sports contest and enforce the rules judiciously as possible.
  • Oversee the Intramural Sports contest and ensure participation take place in a safe manner.
  • Assist in post-game duties
  • Assist in completing any forms that are in need of completing.
  • Assist in closing down the activity are and collecting equipment at the conclusion of the beginning and/or weekend activities.

Fitness/Wellness Program

Personal Trainer

Job Description: Responsibilities include providing personal training services to clientele of all fitness levels, including students, faculty and staff. Personal trainers are expected to adhere to teaching methods accepted as safe and appropriate by Campus Recreation.

Specific Duties:

  • Work one-on-one with clients, providing them with specific exercise programs in cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and flexibility.  
  • Conduct fitness assessments and consult with clients on personal needs and interests.  
  • Ensure clients’ safety by demonstrating safe and correct form for exercises, modifying exercise intensity levels, and appropriately warming up/cooling down
  • Teach the benefits of exercise and wellness to assist with improving client quality of life through support and motivation.
  • Maintain complete client files

Fitness Instructor

Job Description: Teach group exercise classes to the University community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead structured exercise classes (i.e. kickboxing, zumba, yoga, pilates, water aerobics, etc.)
  • Assist with the maintenance of exercise equipment (i.e. body bars, stability balls, rubber tubing, hand weights, etc.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of group exercise special events.
  • Offer useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their exercise program and/or use of equipment

Aquatics

Lifeguard

Job Description: Monitor and supervise the pool facilities, enforcing policies and procedures.

Specific Duties:

  • Monitor and enforce pool rules and policies.
  • Keep facility clean and organized.
  • Know facility's emergency action plan, and how to engage it.
  • Perform lifesaving duties when needed.
  • Answer patron’s questions and follow up on requests.
  • Assist with the opening and closing the facility as needed.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and in-services.
  • Maintain a good level of physical fitness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
