Libby Schmanke, MS, ATR-BC is part-time faculty for the art therapy program, serving as an instructor and the art therapy internship coordinator. She received her master of science in art therapy in 2002, a certificate in substance abuse counseling in 1988, and a bachelor’s degree in humanities in 1976.
Libby has served as an art therapist, substance abuse counselor, and program director since the late '80's. She has worked primarily with women who have substance abuse or dual diagnoses, in inpatient, outpatient, and prison settings.
In 2005, Libby opened a private practice in art therapy in Lawrence, KS, where she provides individual and group art therapy for all ages as well as art instruction. She is a lifelong artist who has shown in solo and group exhibitions in Topeka and Lawrence.
Libby's current research involves collection and analysis of Bridge Drawings and Stories created by women in substance abuse treatment. |
