Emporia State University will interview four candidates for the newly-created position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost/VPAA) in April and May, 2008. The person selected for this position will serve as the chief academic officer and will be responsible for organizing, directing, and managing ESU’s academic programs.

Responsibilities of the Provost/VPAA include:- Providing leadership for the creation of new academic programs to meet the needs of Kansas and the region
- Promoting and sustaining an environment that supports and encourages academic excellence and student learning both inside and outside of the classroom
- Providing leadership for the five academic deans and the dean of Library
- Oversight of the hiring of qualified faculty and the creation and implementation of faculty-development programs
- Overseeing faculty evaluation, tenure, and promotion processes
- Actively seeking student, faculty, and staff input, addressing concerns, and demonstrating involvement in the shared governance process
- Contributing significantly to the effective function of the senior leadership team
- Providing leadership to the following areas: Technology and Computing Services, Institutional Research, Research and Grants, International Education, Off-site and Distance Education, Enrollment Management, Career Services, Honors Program, Center for Teaching Enhancement and Assessment
- Effectively managing the academic budget to achieve the strategic goals of the University
- Assisting the President with formulating policy related to academic programs; Supervising and evaluating administrators in Academic Affairs
- Demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence and inspiring faculty and students to this end
- Ensuring assessment programs are developed, implemented and effectively utilized for program improvement
- Utilizing a collaborative leadership style
- Strengthening and developing partnerships between academic programs and student life
- Providing appropriate support and leadership of partnerships with the community.
