Emporia State University Departments of Physical Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics position beginning August 2008.
The responsibilities will include teaching introductory, general education, and/or service courses in physics and the physical sciences, and directing the Peterson Planetarium. Participation in appropriate proposal development, grant administration and/or distance-learning course delivery will be highly desirable. Completion of a PhD (or EdD) in physics/physical science education (with content background in physics), or a PhD in physics with demonstrated involvement in science education is expected prior to August, 2008. Some content background in astronomy is also considered desirable.
Successful candidates will provide evidence of, or promise of, excellence in teaching, a commitment to research and/or scholarly activity, and service contributions.

Emporia State University currently offers BA and BS degrees in physics and a physics-emphasis MS degree in physical science, as well as a BSE with teaching fields in chemistry, earth/space science, physics, and middle school/general science. Physics faculty also provide significant support for the university’s pre-engineering program and dual-degree (3-2) programs with nearby engineering schools.
