Publication Timelines

Printing Services handles more than 3,000 copying, supply order, and printing jobs per year and often has more than 50 jobs being worked on in various stages at the same time.

Many factors are involved in determining how long it will take to produce a publication. One of the most crucial parts of the time frame is the proofing stage. The faster a customer returns the proof, the faster the job can be completed. Even more important to this process is having text and photographs available and all editing done before the designer begins working with the project.

The following is a list of time estimates for completion of jobs. These time frames are effective once Printing Services has received all the information (text, photos, etc.) to begin the job.

Color or black and white copies Same-day service to 5 working days, depending on size of job
Transparencies Same-day service to 5 working days, depending on size of job
Wideformat signs or displays Same day service to 10 working days
Small, standard jobs (business cards, letterheads, etc.) 3 to 10 working days
Black mirrorkote gold foil business cards 3 to 20 working days
Reprints with no changes 3 to 10 working days
ESU Logos on disk Same-day service to 3 working days
New logo design 10 working days
Print Advertisements 10 working days
Two-color jobs (brochures, sheets, booklets, postcards, etc.) 10 to 15 working days
Four-color jobs (brochures, sheets, booklets, postcards, etc.) 15 to 20 working days
Posters 15 working days
Larger jobs (viewbooks, transfer guides, magazines, books, etc.) 15 working days or more

• The time that a proof is out for the customer’s approval is not included in these estimated time frames. As mentioned before, the quicker you return proofs, the quicker your job will be completed.

• The above timelines are to help you plan, but cannot be guaranteed because of the many variables involved. Other factors to consider when estimating a job timeframe: quantity, availability of paper, seasonal workload of designers and Printing Services, availability of ink, and type of binding.
